Throwback Thursday: ‘Buy U A Drank’ by T-Pain ft. Yung Joc (2007)

In February of 2007, I turned 21, and it just so happens that T-Pain's "Buy U A Drank" came out that year as well!

It was my jam at the club. Oh, the memories. College days long gone by.

Anyway, "Buy U A Drank" was released in February of 2007 and featured a verse by Yung Joc. The song was produced by T-Pain himself and he said he wrote it for a specific group of people.

...these days lots of people begin their relationships in the clubs. Whole conversations begin with some guy buying a young lady a drink. I wanted to make a song for those folks.

The song did very well here in America. It went all the way to #1 on a couple of Billboard charts, the Hot 100 and the Hot R&B /Hip-Hop Songs. Making the song T-Pain's first #1.

"Buy U A Drank" also broke some records! Who knew Savage Garden and T-Pain had something in common.

The song, which spent its chart run in each of the top 12 positions of the Hot 100, broke the record of "Truly Madly Deeply" by Savage Garden, which previously had been the only single in the history of the Hot 100 to spend time in each of the top 10 positions on the chart during its run.
