Throwback Thursday “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson (2012)
It is now August, the eighth month in the year 2020, and what a year it has been. There has been a lot going on this year including a global pandemic, civil unrest, murder hornets, wildfires, and so on.
And in the words of Kelly Clarkson, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
The song is technically about a breakup, but we can make it work for whatever we want.
"Stronger" was on Kelly Clarkson's fifth studio album of the same name.
According to Wikipedia, "Titled as "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" for the album version." Um, why do that to us? Make up your mind on the title.
Anyway, it was the second single off the album and went on to multiple number ones. "Stronger" peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, US Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, Dance Club Songs, and Mainstream Top 40. It was also the #12 on Billboard's Hot 100 Year-End chart!
The music video is very much a reflection of the time. Flash mobs were all the rage! In the same Wikipedia article, this was said about the music video, "On November 21, 2011, Clarkson announced on her website that she wanted to incorporate a global flash mob into the accompanying music video of "Stronger". She posted: "I'm shooting my video for "What Doesn't Kill You" and I'd like everyone to join me in my global flash mob! Check out the routine in the video below.
