"Scars" was the second single from Papa Roach's fourth album, Getting Away with Murder.

Papa Roach is a band out of California and is made up of members Jacoby ShaddixJerry Horton, Tobin Esperance, and Tony Palermo.

Lead singer, Jacoby Shaddix said he wrote this song after he had to go to the hospital and receive staples in his head due to an act of self-harm. Jacoby has since said that this song saved his life.

Here is a fun fact for you, according to Wikipedia, "The lyric 'The scars remind us that the past is real' came from a quote by Hannibal Lecter in the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. A film of Red Dragon was released in 2002 and the lyric the scars remind us that the past is real can also be found in the closing monologue of the film. Also the last name of one of the victims of Red Dragon's antagonist is Jacobi, similarly to first name of Papa Roach's lead singer."

"Scars" is one of Papa Roach's biggest songs to date. It sold better and charted higher than their previous hit, "Last Resort". "Scars" is also the bands first and only Top 40 hit! (So far.)

"Scars" peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 on Alternative Songs chart, #4 on the Mainstream Rock chart, #7 on Mainstream Top 40, and #8 on Pop 100 chart.
