Throwback Thursday ‘My Favorite Mistake’ by Sheryl Crow (1998)
I love a good 90's, female rocker, Lillith Fair vibes kind of moment!
"My Favorite Mistake" was Sheryl Crow's first single off of her third album, The Globe Sessions.
The song is about a no-good, cheating, two-timing boyfriend and many speculate the subject of this song is Eric Clapton!
In case you forgot, Sheryl Crow and Eric Clapton dated briefly in the late 90s. And apparently, he's a cheater.
According to Wikipedia, "The single debuted at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 on December 5, 1998 and peaked at number 20, as well as reaching number two on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart..."
On the 1999 Billboard Adult Top 40 year-end chart, "My Favorite Mistake" landed at #17!
"My Favorite Mistake" went on to be nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys in 1999. Sheryl Crow lost that Grammy to Celine Dion with "My Heart Will Go On," however, Crow did win the Grammy for Best Rock Album.
The music video is pretty simple. Just Sheryl Crow in a room with a guitar and some spotlights. She, apparently, couldn't decide on an outfit. She is seen in two very similar outfits, one black, one red. Maybe don't be so monochromatic next time, Sheryl. Maybe try the red top with the black pants or vis versa. There, I'm helping.
