Throwback Thursday ‘I’m The Only One’ by Melissa Etheridge (1993)
I don't think Melissa Etheridge gets enough credit for having some totally badass hits in the 90s!
"I'm the Only One" was released in 1993 and was on her album, Yes I Am. Yes I Am was Etheridge's fourth studio album. The title is a sort of tongue and cheek response to Melissa Etheridge coming out as a lesbian in the early 90's. Clever girl.
"I'm the Only One" is arguably Melissa's biggest hit to date. The song went to #8 on Billboard Hot 100 chart and all the way to #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
The music video is hot. It's got this kind of sexy, steamy vibe. Lots of slow, dirty dancing going on between good looking sweaty people. It must have been very warm in 1993.
This is one of those songs that comes on at karaoke or at a bar and everybody basically blows out their vocal chords trying to sing along. Talk about some power notes! Girl can sing!
