Throwback Thursday ‘Hanging By A Moment’ by Lifehouse (2000)
"Hanging By A Moment" was the first single off of Lifehouse's debut studio album, No Name Face.
Lifehouse is a band out of Los Angeles. Lead singer, Jason Wade, has said that he wrote "Hanging By A Moment" in five minutes.
According to Wikipedia, "Hanging By A Moment" had an interesting chart journey, " It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the band's most successful single to date on the chart. Despite not peaking at number one, it was the number one single of 2001, becoming only the third (and currently last) single to top the year-end charts despite never spending a week at the top of the weekly charts. It followed "Breathe" from the previous year in completing this feat, marking the second consecutive year this feat had been accomplished after not happening for 35 years prior to 2000."
"Hanging By A Moment" never made it to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 weekly chart due to the success of "Lady Marmalade" by Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil Kim as well as "U Remind Me" by Usher.
The song did peak at #1, however, on the Adult Top 40 and the Alternative Airplay chart.
"Hanging By A Moment" went on to be the most played song of 2001.
There are two music videos for "Hanging By A Moment." The first was released to MTV2 and VH1 as a temporary video (below). The second, is probably the one you would remember and is a little more polished (above). Both claim to be the 'official' music video. It is interesting, though, that the 'temporary' video is the one on Lifehouse's official YouTube page.
Lifehouse is still together, however, the lineup has changed through the years. Jason Wade is the one constant. As of April of 2021, they were still releasing new music!
