Throwback Thursday ‘Bad Day’ by Daniel Powter (2005)
Yesterday, September 25th, was One Hit Wonder Day, so that got me thinking, "What song could be a Throwback that is a one hit wonder?"
"Bad Day" by Daniel Powter is probably most remembered as the send off song on American Idol. It was a single off of Powter's second, self-titled album, Daniel Powter.
Daniel Powter is a Canadian singer/songwriter.
The song was actually recorded in 2002, but didn't get released until 2005.
The song was originally released in Europe and after its success there it was released in America.
According to Wikipedia, "...it topped the Billboard Hot 100, Pop 100, Adult Top 40, and Adult Contemporary charts. In 2006, it became the first song ever to sell two million digital copies in the United States. After another million were sold, it was certified three-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2009."
Not too shabby.
The music video was directed by Marc Webb and in 2006 had 9.8 million views. The music video features Jason Adelman and Samaire Armstrong. The O.C. fans will remember Samaire as Anna Stern.
Daniel Powter now lives in Los Angeles and has three kids. He is divorced.
He last released music back in 2018.
