Timehop reminded me that this song was #1 this week back in 1999, so it is getting the honor of being today's Throwback Thursday song of the day.

"Unpretty" was on TLC's third album, FanMail.

TLC is made up of members Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins, Rozanda 'Chili' Thomas, and Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes.

"Unpretty" started as a poem by Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins and producer, Dallas Austin, helped turn it into the song we know today.

According to Wikipedia, "The song would mark the group's fourth and final US number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, spending three weeks atop the chart, and the second consecutive number-one single from the album, following "No Scrubs"'.

"Unpretty" was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards.

The music video depicts storylines about women dealing with various insecurities and societal pressures.

The song and music video take on issues like bulimia, bullying, violence, and poor body image.

Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes does the whole song in American sign language in the music video.

Remember when this song was on Glee in a mash-up with "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story? The episode was about Rachel wanting a nose job to look more like Quinn, but Quinn was dealing with a ton of issues of her own. So good!
