Throwback Thursday ‘Birthday’ by Katy Perry (2014)
My birthday is tomorrow (February 4)!!!
That is really the only reason I need to do any song I wanted this week, but I figured I'd stay on theme!

"Birthday" by Katy Perry was from her fourth studio album, Prism.
"Birthday" might seem like one of Katy's less popular songs, however, it was a hit!
According to Wikipedia, "Before being released as a single, the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart of April 16, 2014, at number 91.[28] One week later, the song jumped to number 83. The following week, it went from 83 to 37.[29] It peaked at 17 on the Hot 100 becoming her 15th entry to reach the top 20 of the chart.[30] The song has peaked at the top of Hot Dance Club Songs chart extending her record for most consecutive dance club no.1 songs to 14. The song has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in the United States; consequently it was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)."
The music video for "Birthday" was quite the production. It features Katy dressed up as five different birthday party entertainers: Goldie, Yosef, Kriss, Ace, and Mandee. The video is shot hidden camera style and a bunch of crazy stuff happens! The makeup and costumes were amazing!
The video had mixed reviews. Some people praised the concept and thought it was funny, while some had issues with her Yosef character. Yosef was the MC for a bar mitzvah. Some critics thought the character perpetuated Jewish stereotypes, was cultural appropriation, and was anti-Semitic.
This controversy came after Katy Perry was also criticized for portraying a geisha during a performance.
Below is the very uncontroversial official lyric video! I mean, it features cake. Who doesn't like cake?
