The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of South Dakota, including Sioux Falls. The advisory is in effect from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Thursday.

A winter weather system is expected to move into the area Thursday, bringing a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, slee,t and snow. This could create icing on roads and make travel difficult.

"More wintry precipitation will spread into the area by later Wednesday night and Thursday. While precipitation will start as light snow, many areas near and east of the James River valley will see a mix or change to light freezing rain which is likely to result in a glaze of icing on Thursday. Some shifts to locations of expected ice and snow are still possible. Be sure to keep an eye on road conditions," - NWS

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
  accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations up to one tenth
  of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and
  southeast South Dakota.

* WHEN...From 8 AM to 6 PM CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road
conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by
calling 5 1 1.

The National Weather Service says"Winter Weather Advisories are issued when snow, blowing snow, ice, sleet, or a combination of these wintry elements is expected but conditions should not be hazardous enough to meet warning criteria.  Be prepared for winter driving conditions and possible travel difficulties."
