UPDATE 4:27 AM 11/27/25:

Winter Storm Watch For Sioux Falls Friday through Saturday

Early Thursday morning (November 27), the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for southeast South Dakota, including Sioux Falls, as well as parts of Iowa and Minnesota. The Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon (November 28) through Saturday evening.

Well, it was bound to happen sooner rather than later - winter is here. Sure, on the calendar, winter still has a few weeks before it arrives. But here in the real world, Sioux Falls is poised to get a real taste of winter this weekend.

After a blast of cold early this week, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls (NWS) is tracking a possible winter storm that could bring snow to Sioux Falls.

What the National Weather Service Says

"While there is uncertainty about the exact location and amounts of snowfall, confidence is growing that at least moderate snowfall (greater than 3 inches) will occur across a large portion of the region Friday through Saturday," the National Weather Service said Wednesday morning.

A huge, dramatic blizzard isn't expected for Sioux Falls, but it could be enough snow to make driving dangerous. With any luck, we will be spared the wind this time.

Thanksgiving Day Weather Breakdown

Sioux Falls Thanksgiving Day forecast looks pretty good: sunny skies and a high around 30 degrees on Thursday. It'll be cold Thursday night, dipping down into the teens.

Possible Storm Timeline

While there is still some uncertainty about the exact location and intensity of the storm, the NWS forecast says Sioux Falls should expect snow to start falling Friday afternoon and continue overnight into Saturday morning.

If you are traveling east into Minnesota or Iowa, be prepared for even more snowfall.

The picture will become clearer as we get closer to the weekend. So, keep an eye on the weather and be ready to stay home.
