They're back on the ice!

The NHL preseason began for the Minnesota Wild on two good notes.

First-Mikko Koivu signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him in a Wild uniform for the next three seasons. Koivu is the only permanent captain in franchise history.

Second-Minnesota beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in a shootout.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday, September 21st in the State of Hockey at the Xcel Energy Center. The regular season for the Wild begins Thursday, October 5th in Detroit. The season home opener will be Saturday, October 14th against Columbus.

Look for the Minnesota Wild to be a leader once again this season.
