If you are a person of a certain age, you probably remember when summer blockbuster movie season meant something. Sure, there are still big movies nowadays. But nothing now can compare to the massive hype that used to wash over us in the 80s and 90s.

We drowned in movie commercials, news stories, and news stories about the commercials. Don't forget the tie-in toys, clothes, and fast food promotions.

The best part of the summer blockbuster season was finding which restaurant had the best collectors cup selection. You'd see the signs go up in May, 'Collect all 5,' they'd scream. Maybe you'd even find the height of fast food luxury: fancy GLASS collectors cups.

Where did all the collector cups go? This stuff just doesn't happen anymore. If it does it'll be a boring promo at some C-level fast food chain. There were some real classics back in the day:

Pac-Man Glasses from Arby's

These came during the height of Pac-Maina in the 80s. This glass was also one of my favorite childhood objects. Until it broke. Now, I still sweep through every thrift store I come across looking for replacements.

Batman Forever Glasses from McDonald's

I still have a full set of these. In fact, I just handed them down to my son, like a super nerdy family heirloom.

In 1995 McDonald's sold these 'chiseled glass' Batman collector's items. The Riddler! Two-Face! Batman! Only 99 cents. I am sure there were plenty of ironic college drinking games using these glasses.

Batman Returns Cups at McDonald's

Batman and McD's had a long relationship in the 90s. Before the glasses, they had these plastic collector cups. There even came with a Bat-Disc lid! So you can fight off the hippies evil of the world...I guess.

Jurassic Park Cups at McDonald's

When it comes to genetic engineering and giant terror lizards, the first thing that comes to mind is a brightly colored soft drink cup.

McDonald's Flintstones Mugs

The Biggest movie of 1994 was The Lion King. But at Mcdonald's, they were all in on the live-action Flintstones movie. If you didn't know that a live-action Flintstones movie happened, good. Keep it that way. There is nothing but sadness to be found there.

But, McDonald's did bring out the collector mugs! They kinda look like stone even. These I managed to keep safe over the years. Unlike my Pac-Man glass!

Taco Bell and Star Trek III

Unlike chilis and chocolate; Taco Bell and Star Trek seem like two thing that wouldn't go together, and you are correct. But, you gotta fill up for the long search for Spock, I guess.

Burger King Loved Star Wars

Burger King hitched their collector cup fortunes to the Star Wars bandwagon early. So early they knew Greedo shot first.

They churned out the collectors glasses for all three original movies.

Hey Don't Forget Your Lando Glass From BK

Jabba or the Ewoks? I can't decide!

Collector cups and glasses need to make a return. I'd hit the drive-thru for a complete Ant-Man and Wasp collection. Drink my iced tea from Hank Pym's head or something.
