Sioux Falls and the surrounding area have a pretty good chance for some stormy weather on Monday afternoon and evening (July 7).

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of South Dakota, Nebraska, iowa, And Minnesota in effect until 10:00 PM Monday night.

The NWS says we may see, "scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible. Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely."

Sioux Falls is part of the watch.

   The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

   * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
     Northwest Iowa
     Southwest Minnesota
     Northeat Nebraska
     Southeast South Dakota

   * Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 315 PM until
     1000 PM CDT.

   * Primary threats include...
     Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events
       to 2 inches in diameter possible
     Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely

   SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are intensifying along a line across
   southeast South Dakota. These storms will spread across the watch
   area through the afternoon and early evening, posing a risk of
   damaging winds and large hail.  A tornado or two is possible.

   The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 75
   statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles east of Sioux
   Falls SD to 15 miles north northwest of Ainsworth NE. For a complete

   REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
   favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
   Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
   weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
   warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
   tornadoes.
