Throwback Thursday ‘The One’ by Backstreet Boys (2000)
It's Valentine's Day week so I wanted to do a love song and it was just announced Backstreet Boys will be in Sioux Falls in August! So, obviously, today's Throwback Thursday song is a Backstreet Boys song!
I thought about doing one of their ballads like "I'll Never Break Your Heart" or "All I Have to Give" or "More Than That," but people get mad when I do a slow song, so I figured "The One" was perfect. It's still a love song, but it's uptempo!
"The One" was the fourth and final single off of Backstreet Boys' album, Millennium.
Backstreet Boys is made up of members Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, and Nick Carter.
I remember it as if it was yesterday. Backstreet Boys let fans vote for their fourth single on TRL. "Don't Want You Back" (also a bop) was in the lead until Nick Carter, himself, called in to the show and said "The One" was his favorite. That was enough to tip the scales!
The music video for "The One" was all tour footage from the Into The Millennium Tour. Kevin Richardson co-directed the music video.
The video was a staple and #1 placeholder on MTV's TRL. However, on the Billboard charts, it wasn't the group's highest performing single. It went to #30 on the Billboard Hot 100, #15 on US Adult Contemporary, and #11 on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart.
But for most fans, it's a #1 in our hearts!
