I had the history making privilege of attending the South Dakota Ballet Soiree. It's history making because this is South Dakota's first professional ballet company and South Dakota is actually the last state to have a professional ballet company. What took so long?

I should say this is herstory because Founder/Executive Director/Artistic Director, Madeleine Scott, is getting it done!

At the Soiree last night all the attendees were privy to the announcement for the inaugural performance and a little sneak peak into the professional dancers coming to South Dakota.

Mark your calendars because the first performance for the South Dakota Ballet will be June 12, 2020.

Madeleine Scott gave a very impassioned speech at the event urging people to continue their support for not only the ballet, but local arts in general. She also detailed the upcoming gala!

And to make sure I didn't get the information wrong, she also e-mailed me the details!

In an e-mail from Madeleine Scott, she said, "The Inaugural Gala will also highlight several of South Dakota's emerging artists. South Dakota Ballet's Inaugural Gala will feature excerpts from iconic classics such as "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty" as well as contemporary ballet masterpieces abundant with athletic mastery. Local musicians will accompany the dancers throughout the performance."

Tickets for the inaugural performance will start at $41. Limited VIP tickets will be available. The VIP tickets not only include priority seating, but also give entrance to an exclusive after party with all of that evening's performers.

Madeline Scott continued, "The post-Gala Performance Party will feature immersive art elements, a live band, guest performers, delicious food and beverage...and of course, a space to dance the night away as we celebrate the first performance by South Dakota Ballet! South Dakota Ballet's Inaugural Gala is a black tie event however formal attire is not required. Whether you are a ballet novice or a long-time connoisseur this show will leave you inspired and excited for more."
