The "Halo" video game franchise has sold over 65 million copies worldwide and grossed more than $5 billion in sales and now its heading to the small screen. Apparently the idea of a show has been on the shelf for the past 4 years but Showtime has finally given it the green light!

The network made the announcement yesterday (6/28) on producing a 10 part series live action series. Kyle Killen is on board set to serve as executive producer and writer. Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will direct multiple episodes of the series and serve as an executive producer as well.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the premise of the show will take place in the same universe that launched in 2001 and will dramatize an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.

The cast will be announced at a later date. Production is set to begin in early 2019.
