South Dakota Group Wins Huge Jackpot in Mega Millions Drawing
It took more than a month, but a group from South Dakota has now come forward to claim a huge lottery jackpot.
The Blue Yucca Trust from Rapid City was the sole winner of the $360 million grand prize thanks to a ticket that matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball in the October 6 Mega Millions drawing.
But the ticket didn't come from South Dakota, it was actually purchased at Striped Convenience Store in San Angelo, Texas.
The store will get a $1 million bonus for selling the ticket. which is the biggest lottery win in Texas history.
According to lottery officials, the Blue Yucca Trust has opted for the one-time cash payout option, meaning they will walk away with $157,367,045 before taxes.
It is the ninth Mega Millions jackpot won this year. That hasn't happened since 2014.
Mega Millions is currently played in 45 states (including South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota) plus Washington DC and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 PM Central Time.
