During a news conference Friday night, Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said an officer reported hearing gunshots coming from the first floor of the Nordstrom store shortly before 8 p.m. The responding officer located the man’s body, which had been shot multiple times, inside of the store.

Hodges described the victim as a 19-year-old African-American male. He said life-saving measures attempted at the scene were unsuccessful.

Hodges says a review of surveillance video indicates an altercation had broken out between two groups involving a total of 5-9 people. The shots were fired during the altercation. Hodges said officers are in the process of identifying suspects and said he’s confident police will apprehend the subjects involved.

The Mall of America’s Twitter account indicated the mall went into a lockdown around the time of the reported shooting. The lockdown has since been lifted.
