Meet Karen Meyer of Brandon, South Dakota-She is known as an award-winning competitive eater in the Sioux Empire. She means business too!

Karen Meyer doesn't mess around when it comes to food. She has been ruling the eating competition world across the Sioux Empire.

Karen recently sat down with our friends at Pigeon605 to detail her food journey. No food is safe. Pizza, hot dogs, nachos, chicken, burgers....there is nothing Karen Meyer won't eat. But she doesn't always win the battle.

Sometimes, the challenges require Meyer to eat multiple items. At Jethro’s BBQ in Ankeny, Iowa, she polished off a pound of waffle fries, a spicy pickle, 8 ounces each of pork tenderloin and buffalo chicken tenders covered in 4 ounces of white cheddar sauce, two cubes of fried cheese, a pound of beef brisket, one-quarter pound of bacon, an 8-ounce cheeseburger and the top and bottom of a bun that enclosed it all. She edged in within the 15-minute time limit with 10 seconds to spare

Winning isn't easy, but it sure does taste good!

Who Is Karen Meyer and Why Does She Compete in Eating Contests?

She's a regular mom of three who works as a lab tech. Karen proudly admitted to our friends at Pigeon605 that she's "a person who enjoys multitasking." She also loves the competitive rush and the intensity that some challenges bring.

How Does The Yard Bird Challenge Work? What's In It?

You'd better be hungry for this major Sioux Falls food challenge.

Here's what is on the menu for the Yard Bird Challenge:

16 pieces of chicken (Equals two chickens).
One pound of fries.
A Pint of Two Sides of choice (baked beans, coleslaw, or potato salad)

You can pick the drink of your choice to wash this meal down. If you don't finish this meal in 45 minutes, the total cost of the Yard Bird Challenge is $40.

Gone But Not Forgotten - Iconic Sioux Falls: Whiffer's Sandwiches

The Merriam-Webster definition of iconic is "widely recognized and well-established." That would definitely describe Whiffer's Sandwiches which used to call North Minnesota Avenue home.

The gone but not forgotten sandwich shop was located in an old house at 1133 North Minnesota Avenue. It served sandwiches to Sioux Falls from November 1978 until the summer of 2020.

The 10 Most Redneck Towns in South Dakota

Are you a 'Redneck?' I guess to some people, all of us in South Dakota are rednecks.

If we use the Jeff Foxworthy Scale of Redneckeness, I have, in fact, been too drunk to fish. So by definition, I am a redneck. And so are many people I know.

Not that being from the country is a bad thing, and it can be fun to poke fun at ourselves.

With that in mind, we found that the folks at RoadSnacks put together a list that claims 'These Are The 10 Most Redneck Cities In South Dakota.'

What is a Redneck?

The dictionary says that a redneck is someone "...who lives in a small town or in the country, especially in the southern U.S., who typically has a working-class job, and who is seen by others as being uneducated and having opinions and attitudes that are offensive."

Well, a few things. First, South Dakota isn't THAT kind of 'south.' We're to the south of North Dakota, but to the north of 'The South.'

Plus that definition sounds awful mean and serious. I thought we were having fun here.
