Missouri Recall: Ice Cream Bars May Be Contaminated
I would like to lodge a formal complaint. You rarely see foods like spinach get recalled, but it's almost always the tasty items. That's happened once again as ice cream bars in Missouri have been pulled from store shelves due to a potentially serious contamination.
This new bulletin from the Food and Drug Administration includes thousands of ice cream bars that they say were widely available in Missouri and Illinois, too. It states that ice cream bars produced by Rich's Ice Cream have been discovered to have a potential contamination of Listeria. Here are the flavors and lot numbers of the recalled ice cream bars that you should look out for:
- Chocolate Crunch Cake Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Strawberry Shortcake Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Rich Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Crumbled Cookie Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Orange Creme Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Fudge Frenzy Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Cotton Candy Twirl Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Savagely Sour BlueRasberry Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Savagely Sour Cherry Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
- Cool Watermelon Bar - Lot # 24351 through lot # 25156
This is a huge recall that affects more than 110,000 cases of ice cream bars. The fact that Listeria has been detected in these lots is concerning since that infection can lead to serious health issues. The life-threatening cases are rare, but not a possibility you should take lightly. It's especially dangerous for the very young, very old, pregnant women or those with compromised immune systems.
