Filling up your tank hurts. But at least it is going to hurt a little less in the future if current trends continue.

The average price for a gallon of gas in South Dakota is virtually steady at $2.51, up just a penny from a week ago. But the trend for prices is heading south.

“Since the end of October, gasoline demand has mostly decreased as gasoline stocks have mostly increased, paving the way for cheaper gas prices,” said Marilyn Buskohl, AAA spokesperson. “AAA expects stocks to continue to grow and drive gas prices even cheaper through year-end.”

The price of gas one month ago was $2.52. One year ago it was just $2.40 in the Mount Rushmore State.

Locally in Sioux Falls, the average price for gas is down 3 cents this week to $2.41 per gallon, and a dime cheaper than the rest of the state. The cheapest gas in town can be had for $2.29.
