The National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls issued an Extreme Cold Warning for much of South Dakota, including Sioux Falls. The  Extreme Cold Warning also included much of Iowa and Minnesota.

The Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from Monday night (Feb 17) through Tuesday morning (Feb 18).

The NWS forecast says that we can expect dangerously cold wind chills in the 30 to 45-degree below-zero range. Monday night lows in the Sioux Falls area are forecast to be near -25.

  as 33 below zero. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold
  wind chills as low as 40 below zero expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and south
  central and southeast South Dakota.

* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until noon CST today. For
  the Extreme Cold Warning, from 9 PM this evening to noon CST
  Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero
  could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
