Beresford Officer on Administrative Leave After Shooting Armed Man
A Beresford police officer is on administrative leave after an incident Thursday in which the officer shot a Sioux Falls man.
Attorney General Marty Jackley and Beresford Police say the officer, identified only as "Sergeant Steckelberg," had been called to a house on North 13th Street in Beresford over the noon hour Thursday.
When the officer arrived, a man came out of the house and approached him with a gun.
Sergeant Steckelberg drew his weapon and shot the man, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Lee Heuer of Sioux Falls.
Heuer was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, and the officer was placed on administrative leave.
No one else was injured, and the State Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
