If you sit in the CFO chair of a company and you are a woman, you shouldn't be complaining about how much you make compared to your male counterpart.

According to a report by executive compensation firm Equilar compensation for female CFO's outpaced that of men in the same position.

That follows a trend seen with female CEO's in recent years.

Over the years there have been steady gains for both sexes.  Salaries for women who are CFO's rose 11 percent last year.  Men had a 7 percent increase.

The gains are in part a result of the expansion of the CFO role to indicate far more responsibility and visibility.
