The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of South Dakota including the Sioux Falls.

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when the forecast calls for snow of 3 to 5 inches in 12 hours, sleet accumulation up to 1/4 inch, freezing rain in combination with sleet and/or snow, or blowing snow.

As the system moves over Sioux Falls we are expecting very strong winds and about 3 inches of snow.

"Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause tree damage."

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of one to two
  inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...In Iowa, Lyon County. In Minnesota, Nobles and Rock
  Counties.

* WHEN...From 7 AM to 4 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow
  could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring
  down tree branches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road
conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by

The Watch is in effect from Late Friday night (3/14)-Saturday evening (3/15).

A system will move through the area Friday into Saturday. Rain is expected to start on Friday then change to all snow overnight.

"Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph."

Plan on slippery roads and low visibility, especially outside the city.
