Quite often in South Dakota, we march to a different beat from the rest of the country.

In fact, just last week it was revealed that the Mount Rushmore State was one of only two in the nation (Wyoming was the other) that listed Chocolate Santas as our favorite Christmas candy, while a lot of other states were flocking to Reese's Peanut Butter Cup minis, candy canes, Hershey's Kisses, and reindeer corn.

But our streak of individuality abruptly ends when it comes to our favorite Christmas movie.

According to the home advice website House Method, South Dakota is one of 24 states, nearly half of the country, that lists 1983's A Christmas Story as the go-to holiday film.

Apparently we can't get enough of little Ralphie and his never-ending quest to acquire the 'official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time'. And who can forget poor Flick getting his tongue stuck to a flagpole thanks to a triple dog dare?

As for the rest of the country, the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy Elf came in second (11 states), followed by 1990’s Home Alone and 1946's It’s a Wonderful Life.
