Unruly Passenger Arrested at South Dakota Airport
It is not unusual to read about a passenger on an airline flight getting booted off of a plane and arrested. It is unusual for it to happen in South Dakota.
According to the Rapid City Journal, 41-year-old Mistie Justice Watkins of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., spent the weekend in jail after an incident that went down at the Rapid City Regional Airport on Friday night.
At around 8:50 pm an officer was notified that there was an unruly passenger on a plane. After approaching Justice Watkins, the officer informed her that she was being loud and obnoxious and would be deboarding the plane with the officer. She also "indecently exposed herself to other passengers" but it isn't clear when in the timeline this occurred or what specific parts of her anatomy she exposed.
Justice Watkins did not want to leave the plane and attempted to pull away from the officer and also kicked him. Police also said that the officer could smell alcohol coming from her. She was charged with disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, simple assault on law enforcement, a Meade County Warrant, and unlawful occupancy. She finally appeared in court on Monday and was held on a $100 cash-only bond for the simple assault on law enforcement and a $1,000 cash-only bond for the unlawful occupancy.
Getting drunk and unruly on an airline is never a good idea. But the worst time to do it is on a Friday night. Judges don't work on weekends. You're going to sit in the clink all weekend.
Interestingly, one week from now you can do this exact same thing on Main Street in Sturgis and be the most normal person in town.
