In the very literal sense, I have seen several UFOs. Meaning, I saw something that couldn't identify that was flying.

But, seeing what could be a real UFO in the craft from another planet sense, I've only seen one.

My UFO Encounter

It was the late 90s and I was driving on Interstate 80 in Nebraska. It was just after midnight on a cloudy March night. I was westbound and off to the right there was something kinda like a rectangle zig-zagging up in the sky.

I don't know if it was aliens, but I like to think so. And I'm still hoping for one of those big, amazing sightings. Like having a glowing triangle float overhead! Or even a landing, or a crash sight. Fingers crossed.

South Dakota UFO Reports 2024

Nowadays, the Department of Defense calls these flying things, UAPs, AKA Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. But, I'm an old-school tin-foil hat guy, so I'll stick with UFO.

Established in 1974, the National UFO Reporting Center has been collecting reports of things in the sky. If you see something you can report it to them too. Maybe someone else saw what you saw.

Digging into their archives I looked back at the UFO reports in South Dakota for 2024. There have been seven reported sightings in the state this year. Reports come from across the state, from the Black Hills to the Sioux Empire.
