Every year The Farmer's Almanac puts out weather forecasts basedon a formula devised by its founder, Robert B. Thomas combined with modern science.

"Thomas believed the Earth’s weather was influenced by sunspots, which are magnetic storms on the surface of the Sun, and this factored heavily in his forecasts," The Alamanc says.

The Old Farmer's Almanac said that our summer in 2024 was going to be hot and dry. And they're pretty much right on. Except for the heavy rains in June.

So, what does the old book say we got in store this autumn? For most of South Dakota and areas on west, it's looking to be more of the same, hot and dry.

The exception for us will be eastern South Dakota where it is expected to be not as hot, but still dry.

"Your trek to the pumpkin patch may be a bit steamy this year. It looks as if The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a warmer-than-normal autumn this year! In fact, it should be quite warm for the western half of the United States!" - Almanac.com

But, hey, they're saying that a dry fall could lead to some pretty trees when the leaves change. So, we got that going for us.

Will the winter bring South Dakota relief from the heat and some moisture? All we can do is wait and see.
