An increase to state campground fees was approved by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) Department in October and will begin with the New Year. And if you want to save some money, make your 2020 reservations before midnight.

State park entrance fees and fees for select campgrounds will support the upwards of $9 million in damage caused by flooding and storms across the state throughout 2019.

Here's a breakdown of the increases:

Annual licenses to state parks will be $36 with a daily fee of $8. A 7-day motorcycle pass to Custer State Park will be $20. In campgrounds, prime campsites will increase to $26, preferred sites to $23 and modern to $20. Fees for non-electric, tent-only sites will be going down in some cases. These sites will now be consistently $15 statewide.

All fee changes take effect on January 1, 2020.
