Billy Corgan, in an interview with Rolling Stone as recently as September 2017 said he was halfway through recording a new Smashing Pumpkins album when he realized he couldn't imagine doing it without the band's original members. He shelved the album, walked away and went in a completely different direction.

At that time, the thought of a reunion tour for this successful Chicago-born, alternative-rock group, seemed to still be just a twinkle of a thought in some superfan's dream. Now it is reality. The Smashing Pumpkins have announced their new "Shiny and Oh So Bright" Tour, which will feature founding members, Billy Corgan, Jame Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain, playing together for the first time in 20 years. Longtime S.P. guitarist Jeff Schroeder will also be with the tour.

The Smashing Pumpkins will be at the Denny Sanford Premier Center on Tuesday, August 21. Tickets will go on sale at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 23, at ticketmaster.com, smashingpumpkins.com, livenation.com via the Live Nation app, the Premier Center box office and by calling 1-800-745-3000.

This tour is a celebration of the reunion of the original members and also a commemoration of the band's 30th anniversary. They'll be highlighting music from their first five albums, including the haunting "1979" from the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album.
