Today was the last day of my 2018 shooting season. I shot in the South Central Handgunners annual 3-gun match in Pierre, an event that has been going on for 27 years.

It went okay. I placed 13th out 40 shooters, did some good things, screwed things up pretty bad, but had a lot of fun. Best of all I managed to pick up a sweet little red dot scope off of the prize table.

It's a mild bummer but I'm ready for the best part of fall, hunting season, to begin. We are just a couple of weeks away from the pheasant opener in South Dakota on October 20, but that weekend I will be heading for the Black Hills for a week long elk hunt that I hope will bring me home a cow and bunch of meat. Since my freezer only contains one venison roast amongst the packages of burger, I'm anxious for a big fat elk backstrap.
