If your kids have yet to utter the insidious phrase, "I'm bored, there's nothing to do around here!", you may want to consider nominating yourselves for parents of the year! I'm only guessing, but, I would imagine many parents have heard that, and more, over the last few weeks.

Try as you might, your creatively constructed list of activities for your children, from building LEGO robots to gardening, French lessons, creating sparkle slime, and so on, has now narrowed down to building popsicle stick birdhouses and trying to introduce them to the magical world of vacuum cleaners.

It's alright mom and dad, give yourselves a break, the Sioux Falls Humane Society has a fun and rewarding activity that your innovative and yet somewhat disenchanted imps, will really enjoy! Their "Why Adopt?" Art Contest is going on right now.

They want artwork that expresses the importance of adopting shelter pets and what it truly means to be kind to animals. All animals.  The contest is open to children ages 2 through 16 and the deadline for entries is May 12th.

There will be winners in three categories:

  • Best Overall
  • Best Use of Color
  • Most creative

The winners will be announced on May 13th and will be framed and displayed in the Sioux Falls Humane Society front office for one year. Plus all of the artwork will be displayed in the adoption hallway for everybody to see!

For a complete list of rules, the participation form (which must be filled out), and how to get your artwork to the Sioux Falls Humane Society (which is currently closed to the public) just go to their website.
