Rural Minnesota Village Sees 2nd Violent Crime in Less Than One Week
Detroit Lakes, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in northwest Minnesota responded to another violent crime reported in a rural village Thursday morning.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the stabbing report shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. It happened in the Village of Pine Point, which is about 28 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man suffering from a stab wound to the chest. A news release says the victim, identified as 34-year-old James Kettel of Ponsford, MN, was conscious when law enforcement arrived and was taken to a nearby hospital in Detroit Lakes for further treatment. His condition was unknown as of Thursday.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Marcus Lee Waybenais of Walker, was arrested several hours later in the same area as the reported stabbing. Becker County Jail records indicate he was booked on suspicion of first and second-degree assault.
Thursday morning’s stabbing comes on the heels of a fatal shooting reported Sunday in Pine Point. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Michael Dwayne Croud in that suspected murder. He has not yet been apprehended.
