Metallica is preparing for a big year. In the fall they launch the WorldWired tour in support of their latest album, Hardwired to Self-Destruct. September 11 they will 'Ride the Lightning' into the Denny Sanford Premier Center. In addition to preparing for the North American leg, Metallica is apparently getting into the whiskey business.

Fans of the television show WhiskyCast recently saw veteran distiller Dave Pickerrell reveal that he’s teaming up with Metallica to create their own whiskey. Pickerell knows what he’s doing when it comes to the world of spirits. He was a master distiller for Maker's Mark and is going so far as to build an entire new distillery for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer's to roll out the first casks.

For a fan of Metallica and whiskey, this is good news. But let’s not hurry this. One of the most important assets of a fine whiskey is the aging. Perhaps in the meantime, they will put their brand on whiskey that has already aged and is ready to market.

Only time will tell.

I know I'll be ready to sample. Until then, I've got my ticket to the September show.
