Sioux Falls Schools Serving Up Free Summer Meals for Kids

Summer Dreams and Healthy Meals

As summer vacation gets closer, Sioux Falls kids are dreaming about swimming pools, bike rides, playground adventures, and long sunny days with friends. But for many families, summer also brings a difficult challenge - making sure children have enough healthy meals while school is out.

That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is once again stepping up to help with its FREE Summer Meal Program.

Beginning Thursday, May 28, through Friday, August 7, children and teens ages 1 through 18 can enjoy free breakfast and lunch at six elementary schools throughout Sioux Falls. No registration, paperwork, or sign-up is required - kids can simply show up and eat.

Breakfast will be served Monday through Friday from 8 to 8:30 AM, while lunch runs from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Participating Schools in the Meal Program

Meal sites include these elementary schools:

• Terry Redlin - 1721 E. Austin Street
• John F. Kennedy - 4501 S. Holbrook Avenue
• Hayward - 400 N. Valley View Road
• Rosa Parks - 5701 E. Red Oak Drive
• Susan B. Anthony - 2000 S. Dakota Avenue
• Sonia Sotomayor - 1510 S. Lake Avenue

While summer is often filled with fun family memories, school officials know that many students depend on school meals during the regular year. Programs like this help bridge that gap and make sure kids can stay active, healthy, and ready for all those summertime adventures.

Families should note that meals will not be served on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
