Have you ever noticed some of your friends enjoying fish on Fridays during certain points of the year? Or maybe they pass on a dessert or a glass of beer. This only means one thing...it's Lent!

The season of Lent is one of the most reverent periods for the Catholic and Christian faiths. This is a time for people to observe 40 days of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, especially for anyone who practices Catholicism. One rule during Lent is that Catholics are not allowed to eat meat on Fridays. Fish is the exception.

According to the USCCB website, Catholics "are also called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. Contemplate the meaning and origins of the Lenten fasting tradition in this reflection. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God's gifts—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents." Lent is really a time of reflection.

Not eating meat on Fridays isn't too bad, especially when there are lots of great fish fries in Sioux Falls and the Sioux Empire! Thanks to our friends at Yelp!, we found the ten best places in Sioux Falls for fish and fish fries.

Sioux Fallsian? This is What You Call Someone From These South Dakota Towns

Do you know what a Demonym is? It's what you call the people from a place.

For example, people from South Dakota are called South Dakotans. Your partner who was born in Minnesota was a Minnesotan and your family in Iowa are Iowans. And we are all Americans.

That got me curious about what you would call someone from some of the towns in South Dakota. Are we Sioux Fallsians, Sioux Fallsists, or Sioux Fallsites?

I dug into the research and found a definitive-ish list of the demonyms for Sioux Falls and a few other towns in South Dakota.
