Sometimes, Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota firefighters get called to assist in various rescue missions. However, one group of South Dakota firefighters had a surprise during a rescue call on Sunday morning.

A crew with the Rapid City Professional Firefighters had the opportunity to help South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks in rescuing a cat from a tree. But this wasn't just any cat...there was a young mountain lion stuck in a tree.

In a Facebook post from the Rapid City Professional Firefighters, there are clear pictures of the mountain lion in a tree around a neighborhood area of Rapid City. It looks like the mountain lion was in someone's backyard. Can you imagine waking up to a mountain lion stuck in your tree?

Crews had to tranquilize the mountain lion to remove him safely and away from the neighborhood area in Rapid City.

E4 Bshift got a cool experience this morning. They got to assist Game Fish and Parks with getting a young mountain lion out of a Southside neighborhood. Once the lion was tranquilized, we caught him once he fell out of the tree.

Rapid City Professional Firefighters confirmed the mountain lion was located on the southside of the city between 5th and Minnesota.

Omg. He looks comfy. Big kitty.

Wow....and this is why my littles (dogs) don't go outside alone

Kitty rescue! Way to go, Power House!

Beautiful animal

Mountain lion sightings are nothing new to the state of South Dakota. They primarily inhabit the Black Hills. However, they do roam across the state. So if you happen to see a mountain lion in South Dakota, give the big cat its space.

Way to go, Rapid City Professional Firefighters and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks! Thanks for keeping the community safe!
