If you've been on as many long road trips as I have been in my life, you know that when you need to stop for a refresher, you have to stop. Truck drivers are warning about 3 Missouri truck stop towns you really should avoid stopping at if you can.

If you have to travel, you would do well to heed the advice of truck drivers. Those who make their living by driving the highways of America know the good places to stop and gas up and those you should avoid like the plague. That's why the list shared by CDL Life should be memorized as they asked drivers what truck stop towns to avoid and what they said about Missouri is interesting.

  • Joplin, MIssouri
  • Marston, Missouri
  • Peculiar, Missouri

They don't specify which truck stops in those Missouri places you want to stay away from, but I was really surprised by Joplin's inclusion as the Joplin 44 is considered one of the best truck stops in America by many.

One quote regarding a truck stop in Peculiar, Missouri said "the air outdoors smelled like a sewer plant". Yikes.

I'll add a couple of bonus Missouri truck stop towns to avoid from my own experiences.

  • Any stop in metro St. Louis
  • Any stop in the metro area of Kansas City near the clover leaf interstate changes

I once was in a situation where I had no choice but to stop on an exit deep in St. Louis and I couldn't gas up and leave fast enough. I've never felt in danger in St. Louis like I did that day. My encounters in Kansas City happened when I was driving a moving truck west. Made the mistake of stopping off of I-70 just before all of the weird lane changes (to try and stay on I-70) and it was a jungle trying to get reoriented to where I was and what I was supposed to be doing.
