The baby formula shortage across the United States is concerning, to say the least. One look at a formula shelf in a store and you'll see that's apparent. Parents everywhere are struggling to find food for their little ones. Thankfully, there are moms like this Iowa native out there stepping up to help.

According to KCRG, Andrea Heidenreich from Iowa City has been helping other moms who are struggling to find formula through donations. Heidenreich has been making breast milk donations to the Mothers Milk Bank of Iowa. The below photo is of one of her donations from November that equated to six gallons of milk (16.5 gallons  in total donations.) Last Saturday was her final donation, which brought her total donations to 45 gallons of breastmilk--WOW.

Heidenreich was luckily a mother who overproduced breastmilk. She didn't want the extra milk to go to waste, especially during a formula shortage, so she donated it to help moms in need.

There are parents that are very stressed out trying to find formula to feed their babies and for moms who aren’t able to breastfeed...It’s a struggle of wondering where that’s going to come from.” Heidenreich told KCRG.

Other moms like Heidenreich poured in their donations too. The milk bank told KCRG reporters that they've seen an increase in milk donors lately. As a mom of an 8-month-old baby, it's heartwarming knowing there are moms out there coming to the rescue.

With Iowa being one of the worst states in the nation for formula out-of-stock rates, these generous moms are necessary. If you are a mother who can spare some breast milk and want to help other moms, you can get more information about how you can donate HERE.
