A Sioux Falls company takes their business name seriously, and while Firehouse Subs plays off their name as position in the market, the literal fire departments are now on the receiving end of the sub shop’s generosity.

The Scotland Volunteer Fire Department received hydraulic rescue tools, worth more than $21,000 to help extricate victims in car accidents. The Viborg Police Department was gifted a patrol vehicle, worth more than $25,000.

Eric Engelstad, owner of Firehouse Subs, says that giving back to local communities is what intrigued him about starting up the local franchise initially.

Since 2005, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $13 million worth of life-saving equipment in 43 states and Puerto Rico.
