The Butterfly House & Aquarium hosted their Wings & Waves Gala on February 8th and I had the honor of being one of the Celebrity Bartenders.

Luckily, the bar only consisted of wine, beer, and a few choice whiskeys served neat or on ice. So, no real bartending skills required. I did get really good with a corkscrew though!

The night consisted of some light appetizers, drinks, a live and silent auction as well as guest speakers, former Governor Dennis Daugaard and Mayor Paul TenHaken.

The whole evening was put together to help raise money for a new, expanded aquarium. I believe the term they used was, 'The Aquarium that South Dakota deserves.'

As attendees, we were able to see the future plans and it looks amazing! I can't wait to see it come to life!

Not only was this my first time being a bartender, but it was also my first time at The Butterfly House & Aquarium at all. It was so fun! I got to touch a starfish and a sea urchin! Sadly, the stingrays were not available for touching due to the event, but everything else was open.

The Butterfly House is really cool at night. The way the butterflies would be attracted to the lights was cool to watch. I didn't know butterfly wings were transparent! Did you?

It was also interesting to see the different stages of the cocoons up close!

All in all, it was a great night. It was fun and educational! Can't wait for the new improvements to be made. I will definitely be back to check it out!
