Huge College Basketball Upset Predicted By Sweetest Fan From Iowa
If you're a parent, you're always proud of your kids. But there are moments in life that make you a little prouder than usual. As a father, I'm having one of those moments right now. My wife Ellie and I decided to let our 1-year-old fill out a bracket this year.
Since she's one, the best way for her to pick which teams for the NCAA men's basketball tournament is by selecting which mascot she likes the most. Apparently, that's working in her favor because she picked the biggest upset in the tournament so far and it's only the first round.
The Odds of a Perfect Bracket
The odds of someone selecting a perfect bracket for the men's NCAA basketball tournament is 1 in 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 if you don't know anything about basketball, according to the NCAA. If you are a 1-year-old, it's most likely a lot less.
Out of the more than millions of brackets filled out for the men's tournament, only 6.66% of those brackets remain perfect, including my daughter Caelyn's. How is that possible you ask? She picked their mascot.
Iowa's Cutest Fan Picks Furman
On Wednesday, Ellie and I downloaded 69 photos (Nevada and Arizona St. hadn't played yet) and put them on our downstairs television for Caelyn to pick her favorite mascots to predict her bracket.
In the first Instagram video I posted, we show her picks for the first round. Spoiler Alert: she picks #8 Iowa to beat #9 Auburn tonight. Tipoff for that game is at 5:50 p.m. CT on TNT.
She also selected day 1's first major upset. #13 Furman defeating #4 Virginia.
As you can see above, she's pointing at the Furman mascot over the Virginia mascot. I'm not calling her a basketball expert, but she's perfect after the first three games.
See who else she picked in round 1 of the men's NCAA tournament in the video below. Go Hawks!
Round 2 predictions will be coming soon.
