Happy Canada Day

Here in the U.S.of A we are gearing up for the 4th of July! But, did you know that today, July 1st, is Canada Day.

July 1st is kind of Canada's version of Independence Day. According to Wikipedia this is what Canada Day is all about, " it celebrates the anniversary of July 1, 1867, the effective date of the Constitution Act, 1867 (then called the British North America Act, 1867), which united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada.^[1][2] Originally called Dominion Day(French: Le Jour de la Confédération), the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was passed.^[3] Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world, attended by Canadians living abroad."

Also on this day in 1980 "Oh, Canada" officially became Canada's National Anthem. What took them so long?

In my research, it seems Canadians celebrate Canada Day pretty much the same way we celebrate the 4th of July. The day is full of outdoor activities, parades, grilling, and most importantly, fireworks!

So, if you want to celebrate our neighbors to the North, then grab some maple syrup and some poutine and then maybe go play some hockey, eh!
