Gil Brandt Discusses Working in NFL, Negotiating with Players
Gil Brandt, of NFL Network, joins Jeff Thurn on Monday's edition of Overtime Live from Radio Row at the Super Bowl.
Brandt used to work for the Dallas Cowboys in player personnel. Hear is interview with Thurn below:
Brandt recalls when the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys played a preseason game in Sioux Falls in 1961, and then shares more about his time working with NFL in his interview with Thurn below:
What's biggest difference from negotiating with players in today's NFL from in the past?
"It used to be you would sit down with a player and sign a player and he would want 21,000. I'd offer 17,000. We'd compromise to 19,000. He'd say, boy I got him again. Now what happens is you deal with an agent. It's really hard because the agent wants to justify his existence and it's a long seated thing now. Of course agent says we're close, we're close. I would always say well what does close mean?"
