For those of you that don't know, I grew up around the Sioux City area so when I'm back in town I usually try to go to one of my lifelong favorite local spots to eat.

However, on my day off, I was back in Sioux City, doing some holiday stuff and decided to try a new place and I'm so glad I did.

We happened upon Brightside Cafe & Deli in downtown Sioux City. It's located at 525 4th Street.

They are primarily a breakfast and lunch spot, only open until 2 pm. They serve breakfast all day! My favorite.

Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed there were positive quotes from notable people all over the walls. And due to Covid, seating was limited and masks were required until seated and eating.

We were quickly greeted and sat down at our table. Our server, Taylor, was super helpful. I was debating between the Breakfast Waffle Sandwich and the Breakfast French Toast Sandwich. He recommended the French Toast version. I ordered onion rings with my breakfast sandwich (What can I say? I like what I like.) Taylor had some quick remark. He was a fun server.

P.S. The French Toast sandwich is a breakfast sandwich, but instead of boring toast or bread, its French Toast! Yum! And there is a waffle version too!

Tim ordered the Brightside Club Sandwich with fries. It was a tough decision. So many yummy options.

During the meal, I noticed Thank You notes were hanging on the walls. I asked Taylor about it. He explained their 'Feed it Forward Brightside Meals' program, which helps provide meals to people unable to pay. When people come in to eat, they can add a meal to their tab and it will provide a sub, side, and a drink to someone who may be hungry, but unable to pay. In the bag with the meal, you can leave a note of encouragement or well wishes to the person to help them look on the 'brightside', get it!!!! What a beautiful idea.

Inspired by all the quotes on the walls, I left my favorite Maya Angelou quote, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."

Also, because we were first timers to Brightside, and because we became part of the program, our photo is on the Brightside Family board!

If you happen to be in Sioux City for breakfast or lunch, do yourself a favor and check out Brightside!

Great food and a great cause!
