‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’ Trailer: Go Beyond the Wall
The Divergent series has never reached the culture-saturating heights of the Hunger Games movies, but it’s done well for itself. Divergent and its awkwardly titled sequel, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, left fans satisfied and made their fare share of cash at the box office. The first trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant (ugh, that title) is preaching to the choir. No one put off by the first two films will be won over by this footage and no one who skipped the first two will be able to follow any of this, but this movie doesn’t need your approval. It just needs the approval of the faithful.
The trailer begins with a direct appeal to existing fans – a montage from the first two films, reminding you of all that crazy stuff that happened to Shailene Woodley’s dystopian action heroine, Tris. Then it gets to the new stuff, mainly focusing on the adventures Tris and her buddies have beyond the wall that encircles Chicago. Oh, and Jeff Daniels pops up, playing a character who is probably a Big Deal if you know what any of this means.
Here is the official synopsis for the film, which reads exactly how you’d expect the third entry in YA movie series to read:
After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant is directed by Robert Schwentke and opens on March 18, 2016.
