Back to the Future

Today, the future has arrived. It is 'Back to the Future Day.' October 21st, 2015 - the day Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel traveled to in the hit movie, “Back to the Future Part II”

Different scenes in the movie predicted what it would look like on October 21, 2015 - or today. Let's see what they got right, and what never came to be:

Smart Mailboxes - the movie mailbox had a fax machine built in! Unfortunately, mailboxes still look the same since 1985 - and fax machines are quickly becoming outdated.

Video Chatting - Hey, they got this one right. Thanks, Skype and Facetime!

A Female President - She's running, but can Hillary channel her inner-Delorean and become the Commander-in-Chief in 2016? That's a big wait and see.

Pepsi Perfect - This futuristic drink was actually released by PepsiCo. for fans of the movie - and is currently offered on Amazon - but listed as unavailable at the time of this posting.

A Cure for Cancer - in the hit movie, Marty picked up was a newspaper article that claimed cholesterol may be the cure to cancer. Although medicine has made tremendous strides in slowing down the progression of cancer, a cure , unfortunately, still eludes us.

The Chicago Cubs would win the World Series in 2015 - at the time of this writing, the New York Mets take a commanding 3-0 series lead in the NLCS. Soooo you're sayin' there's a chance?

Fingerprint recognition - they got this one right. Fingerprints can be used on some smart locks and nearly all smart phones use this technology. Where we're going, we don't need keys!

Ejection seats - although this would be a nifty feature if you were carjacked or traveling cross country with your favorite ass-in-law, but for now, this technology doesn't exist.

Flying Cars - Undoubtedly, the most sought-after object in the movie franchise would be the flying car. Although cars that drive and park themselves are in the works, the flying kind are not happening anytime soon.

Hoverboard - Admitting they didn't predict it but did manage to create one, Lexus made the hoverboard a reality. Using the right combination of superconductors, magnets and liquid nitrogen (no cup holder?) the board, made of bamboo, is in the initial testing phases.
