Larry Hester from Durham, N.C. is only the 7th person in the U.S. to have this done. Thanks to a groundbreaking surgery, Larry can now see light for the first time in three decades. Larrry has a condition called retinitis pigmentosa, which an eye disease in which there is damage to the retina.

His “bionic eye” was implanted at the Duke University Eye Center in September. In October, Dr. Paul Hahn turned the device on.
